36 Hours and A World Apart (Poem)

Red Rain I

In a moment of warmth and joy, beauty and hope is never ending

Now follows the void and a journey into darkness

Fear reigns as king and consternation is his consort

Never before has contrition been in such abundance and piety at a premiumRed Rain II

no land left a sanctuary and no soul left untouched

What ponders Augustus in the day before slumber

Mischief composed by families of avarice knows no boundaries as red rain falls and lunar blood flows

Who then seeks forgiveness for odious deeds and wisdom from the heavens

while destruction rules and death is ordained

Oh why was the word of the sages not heededRed Rain V (2)

In a call to arms I responded

At the centre of the shadow, was found the light of being

An expedition through the celestial gateway is at hand

Without trepidation or despair a journey of the ages is undertaken and a destiny is fulfilled

What lessons are observed on the fourth as light once again pierces the veil of the night

Thoughts on Politics

The Republican Presidential Debate was quite brutal Thursday night.  Trump got beat up by Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio as they took their turns on him much like Will Smith got beat in his video “Parents Just Don’t Understand”.  Trump took the abuse well though in my humble opinion. He hung tough unlike Rubio did when Gov. Christie caught him in headlights!

…or could you compare the beating he took to being tag teamed by the wrestlers – The Road Warriors?

In retrospect Cruz and Rubio would be better compared to the “Rock-n-Roll Express beating up on King Kong Bundy!

Again, it’s just humour everyone. Hope you had a laugh. I know I sure did!

Sorry I Missed Your Call

Right On Time I

I am sorry I missed Your Call

You came to me when I was vulnerable

Gave me the gift of insight and showed me how it was going to be

That I was more than I thought I was

But I was frightened and feared your vision even though I did not act so

There were so many doubts but I know now that I was just being foolish

You were always there for me Right On Time

Though I stumbled around with my eyes closed hoping to hit the bullseye in the dark,

I was just deluding myself

At the appointed time, You gave me the signal

But in my ignorance I dismissed it

With pride and stupidity I ignored Your Call

I realise now that You have been waiting on me to grow out instead of in

I can see clearly that Your Wisdom is true and that You want what’s best for me

Give me another chance because I want to grow wise too

Give me another chance because I want to see beyond sight

Give me another chance because I want to know beyond what is known

So before You leave come back, forgive my sins of ignorance and arroganceRight On Time IV

Enlighten me and lift my spirit to where it has never been before

Give me another chance to know You and abide with You

because I don’t belong here without You

You were Right On Time and I am sorry I missed Your Call!

Justice or Just-Us Against Them?

Supreme Court I

US Supreme Court

The death of  Justice Antonin Scalia has created another rare void on the Supreme Court, the highest court in the United States. Though the politics of conservative and liberal maneuvering has begun to degrade the entire selection process once again, there are some important issues on the horizon that will need to be address by a balanced and competent court.  One of the more significant issues on the horizon is a court order requested by the federal government to have the Apple corporation devise a decryption method for the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino terrorist in the hopes of uncovering more information on their particular lives.

Apple CEO Tim Cook stated to customers that, “This order … has implications far beyond the legal case at hand.”  This, by any stretch of ones imagination, is an understatement.  Empowering anyone much less the federal government with the means by which to pry into ones personal life unchecked should be considered a blatant violation of civil rights and a dangerous threat to personal civil liberties and freedoms no matter what the driving mechanisms behind it.  Utilising acts of terrorism and fear as a pretense to curtail ones individual freedoms is dangerous to any society much less an established democracy.  With the Patriot Act still a component of American life, continued intrusions into our personal lives will lead the United States down a dark and dangerous path.  Surely the Founding Fathers in all their wisdom did not have this in mind when crafting the constitution. Every time we surrender freedoms and liberties we spit in the faces of the  intellectual juggernauts that founded a great nation upon a living, breathing and ever evolving document we call the United States Constitution.

Though there seems to be a lack of the wisdom, intelligence and sheer shrewdness in contemporary leadership that seemed to be omnipresent in the Patriot Fathers, the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court with the aforementioned qualities are paramount to maintaining the system of checks and balances as well as to ensure a healthy democracy of the people, by the people and for the people.   Though we perceive no particular greatness in our leaders, each and every citizen must throw off Supreme Court IIthe shackles of arrogance, ignorance, selfishness and partisanship with respect to political grandstanding and involve themselves adeptly in the mechanics of our government especially with respect to the selection of Judge Scalia’s successor.  It is imperative that we remove the blinders that have been placed upon us and peer through the fog if we are to have any hope of holding back the dark night that is rapidly descending upon us and the rest of the world. Our time is invariably running short and you can rest assured that there are no knights in shinning armour or superheroes with powers beyond those of mortal men and women to save us.  That task, though monumental, invariably falls to each and every one of us!

Soul Food

Soul Food III

When you’re sitting somewhere that can barely be called a home and wondering where your next meal is coming from

You need soul food

When you’re trying to feed a baby’s spirit and see that they just can’t accept it

You need soul food

When the children you raised grow up angry without true knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the world that has been bequeath to them

You need soul food

When you really can’t see the forest because of the trees

You need soul food

When your eyes pierce through the vail of darkness and you see the true light but are blinded by its intensity

You need soul food

When the seeds of the tree of life seem like weeds that you cannot control

You need soul food

When you see the world as you want it to be and not how it is

By G0d’s grace, you need soul food

When you finally realise that the concept of life and death is but a dream created to restrain the power you have inside

You need soul food

When you understand that the tree does make a sound when it falls in the forest whether you are there to see it or not

You have begun to accept the nourishment that you are being fed

Give thanks for the soul food you have been given

and pass it on to other needy souls

Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine II

To all who are celebrating, here is a classic song from one of my favourite comedians – Redd Foxx from the American version of the British show “Steptoe and Son”, singing “All of Me”.  I hope that you will enjoy it and not spend the day immersed in commercialism.

Who Mourns the Children of Prometheus?

Prometheus III

What will they say when our collective voices have fallen silent

What will they say of our accomplishments and of our abysmal failures

What will they say of our enduring compassion and capacity to love

What will they say of our jealousy, of our avarice, of our ignorance and of our hate

What will they say of our many wonders and of the destruction we have visited upon ourselves and our world

What will they say of the way we have spent our days and our nights

and in the manner in which we have lived

and how we have approached death

What will they say of our gods and of our demons

What will they say

Will they even know or care

Will it matter

Just A Thought

Balance I

In life when driving towards success we should keep our eyes focused on the prize and our minds opened to the numerous other possibilities along the way

We should endeavour to understand that others travel the same path and in some cases, seek that very same prize

We should therefore be ever mindful of conflict but strive for cohesion whenever possible balancing our ambitions with humility and wisdom

For if a few or one succeeds to the detriment of all others, then inevitably all life suffers

Into the Midst of the Storm 2021

storm IV

In the heart of a dusk red sky, lightning flashes and the heavens rumble

the great harbinger in the expanse patiently enters while the earth quakes and it’s children huddle in fear

Families battle in vain for control of consequence and fate

In blood and sacrifice, covenants of the ages are made for hearts and souls

while ignorance and bliss reign supreme over knowledge and wisdom

Within the swirl of wind and hail, tears fall and cries remain uncomforted

Sleeping giants awake from their slumber as deep caverns fill with voices never before heard

The moments for Swift Hello’s and farewells subsides

Shadows from the east and west slowly fade into the darkness

All that endures are choices and resolutions as the storm abates and the millennium dawns

Prepare yourself for the life you want to live and live the life you have prepared
