Affluenza My A**!

Affluenza IV (2)I do apologise for the title ass I really dislike utilising inappropriate language but the case of Ethan Couch has really pea’d me off!  I am sure most of you are aware of the Texas teenager who in June of 2013 at the age of 16 stole beer from a store then casually went on a drinking joyride and ploughed the truck he was driving into four pedestrians killing them all and leaving his passenger paralysed and brain-dead.  After the incident his blood alcohol level was assessed at approximately triple the legal limit for an adult.

Affluenza V (2)He subsequently pleaded guilty to four counts of man-slaughter and given an unimaginable sentence of a mere 10 years PROBATION based on his status as a minor and the so-called “Affluenza” defence.  This defence assumes the inability of one to understand the consequences of his or her actions because of financial privilege and environmental upbringing. In other words, someone that was raised wealthy and not instructed on the basics of social responsibility towards others in society is not accountable for their actions.  Now the fact that he escaped justice with the pithy sentence he was given wasn’t the wake-up call he needed to make necessary changes in his life as he reportedly continued to drink even after rehab. If that wasn’t enough, he  escaped his sentencing with his mother by fleeing to Mexico after a reported farewell celebration with friends. As most of you may be aware of by now, they were recently apprehended in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

My personal rant with all of this is neither due to the fact that some ridiculous plea was used by the defence to get him out of serving a just sentence for his crime nor the fact that he idiotically attempted to escape the asinine sentence that he was gifted with. No, my fury lies with the judicial system that ignorantly allowed this miscarriage of justice in the first place.  It should be absolutely clear to everyone by now that there are two systems of justice in the United States. One for the affluent, privileged, and ethnically acceptable citizenry and another for everyone else. In a country rooted in the light of justice and equity,  we are clearly descending into chaos and darkness and rapidly taking the rest of the world along with us.

Acceptance of the Affluenza defence is inherently dangerous to our perception of equity and justice.  If someone of wealth and influence can escape justice and not be held accountable for his/her actions simply based on being raised in a privileged environment, then why not accept a contrary defence for every poor, middleclass  and underprivileged individual who has committed a similar crime as well?  I mean if you were raised in poverty and educated by parents that did not or could not convey right from wrong to you, shouldn’t you also be allowed to be absolved of any criminal or negligible actions on your part and excused for any anti-AFFLUENZAPREV_display (1)social behaviour that you may exhibit?  Isn’t that the true message of the Ethan Couch decision? Wouldn’t this reinforce the notion that responsibilities for one’s own actions with respect to constitutional  law is mute especially under exceptional discerning circumstances of wealth, race or familiarity?  Does this not negate both the spirit and letter of the law as outlined in the US constitution?

It is quite evident by now that the United States is a nation in decline and has been on life support now for some time.  This can be contributed to  inept leadership; enormous personal and national debt; massive government and social corruption; a blurred social consciousness; continued disparity between the classes; the declining education of the masses and deteriorating family social structure; as well as an apathetic population mired in arrogance. Does any of the aforementioned sound familiar? Well it should as several of these have been the precursor to the fall of the Roman Empire. The Ethan Couch case is just the latest in a series of judgments, policies and events to underscore America’s continued decline on the world’s stage.

With the dawning of a new year and no end in site to the internal and external challenges faced by the nation, a new dark age seems to be rapidly descending on the country as well as the world as a whole.  The United States can no longer be considered a country of truth, justice, liberty, affluence and a balance of power but instead, a major contributor to the decline of western civilization as well as that of the rest of the world. Unless there is a rapid reversal of current trends, we are destined to continue to bankrupt our culture and subsequently relive one of the darkest periods in the history of humankind.   It falls to those of good conscience and influence in the various aspects of our government and society to hold back the darkness and ensure that this nation maintains its place as a beacon of truth, justice, liberty and light for all and not for the privileged few.

New Year, New Resoulutions?

new-years-resolutions III

Fowl Language Comics – Brian Gordon

A new year is upon us which means New Year’s Resolutions.  You know those ambitious undertakings that we eagerly pursue  with the intent of enhancing ourselves or our way of life.  Typically, we choose to exercise more, lose weight, imbibe less, get a better job or overhaul our appearance.  It is a cyclical ride that we endure every year charging headstrong into the changes we intend to undertake and then suddenly without care, abandoning them as if they never existed.

Most resolutions fail because they are made hastily at the end of the year in preparation of the new one as if there is some mystical force awaiting us in the month of January to assist in manifesting all our dreams and desires into reality.  I believe that a new year is symbolic to us of new beginnings when In truth, resolutions can be made at any time and are no less important than those made on New Years Day.

When formulating resolutions I believe a methodical business approach works best. One that begins by setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely (SMART) are those that will more than likely be successful.  So for example, if your resolution is to lose weight then your SMART goal may be set up in this manner:

  1. Determine exactly how much weight you are targeting for loss.
  2. Identify the means by which you will measure your loss and at what intervals you will take the measurements. Be specific!
  3. Ensure that you have the proper focus, resources and time to achieve your targets
  4. Ensure your target is not too difficult or too easy. Choose one that will push your limits and that are in-line with your needs and desires
  5. Set dates for achievement and remain accountable to them

Some resolutions can be a little abstract or not well defined such as wanting to obtain more education or be a wiser person. These are still quite achievable as long as you are able to quantify it and identify exactly what your desired outcome will look like.  For example, if you desire to be more to be healthier for the upcoming year then your SMART goal may look something like this:

SMART-Goals-1024x768 (2)

Whatever your goals are for the new year, ensure that they are changes you truly desire to make and relevant to the overall big picture that you are working towards.  Most of all, be SMART in the way you initiate the desired changes and I am sure that success will be yours by this time next year!

As 2016 dawns, I feel that it would be interesting to ascertain exactly what concerns us as we enter the new year. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the direction we’re headed?  Is the world’s glass half empty or half full?

Please take the time to answer this poll and leave comments. Your participation is appreciated.

A Contemporary Christmas Poem

Twas II

Twas the night before Christmas

Yeah, I heard it all before

When all throughout the land

Stirred the pundits and politicians with their soundbites in hand

Their supporters cheered with eyes bulging from their sockets

As they carefully worked the crowds picking cash from their pockets

Twas I

Alan Keyes

There was Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson – no Keyes

While Democrats touted Hillary….and that’s all to be mentioned of the donkeys

I tried to block it all out – all the clamour, all the chatter

But I could not slumber due to the water in my bladder

When suddenly outside there was heard such a clatter

I bolted from the toilet to see what was the matter

As more rumblings sounded I got a twinge in my neck

So I grabbed my Nine Mil that I waited for with the appropriate background check 🙂

As I pierced through the peephole beneath the moon’s glowTwas - ford-pinto-1980-8

were eight large St. Bernard dogs pulling a 1980 Ford Pinto

I shook with fear, was so unbelievably frightened

A knock at the door left my underwear stained, less whitened

Who is it,  I asked. I’m packing much heat!

“Please relax your trigger finger!” said he. “I’m carrying some treats.”

I spied once again to assess the situation

Outside stood a jolly old man in a Santa’s suit that seemed regulation

Please open the door he said, it’s cold out tonight

I thought to myself this doesn’t seem quite right

But the bag he carried could contain a big score

What the heck I pondered then opened the door

This is very nice of you he said as he casually stepped in

“Cut the smalltalk fatman and let the gift-giving begin

Have you been good this year asked he while staring at my gun

Absolutely I said Santa with a smile as bright as the sun

He seemed hesitant to believe me though he appreciated my wit

while glaring down the barrel of Lucy he wondered if I had a permit

I purchased her honestly I begged him to trust

Verify this with the gun shop or the government if you must

Ok, Ok you’re alright with me

“Really Santa!” I stated with glee

He said, “I must be going now as those dogs are getting quite ancy.”

I have something for you though its not very fancy

I said I’ll take what you got as he pulled the gifts from his sack

Then rushed he back to his Pinto and dogs before they got jacked

As I watched that jolly old man leave my sight

I thought how I enjoyed his company with delight

But weighing his visit from the left or the right

I’d rather be watching that KID………

Tis Tis Tis the Season

Santa

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Sullen bells ring to announce the very sad news Santa II

Another “merry Christmas” arrives pronouncing the blues

Excuse me for the careless lack of P.C.

The term is “happy Holiday” as we can clearly see

False greetings, indebtedness and misplaced cheer holds sway

As hypocrisy, insanity and pseudo wishes are the orders of the day

I maintain my disgust and contempt to be true

But I preserve this façade for the children and for you

So with affectation this last line I proclaim throughout town and throughout hall

Merry Christmas to one, Merry Christmas to all!

(Better to be “Real” than “Surreal”!)
